Chicago Flower and Garden Show

Last weekend I traveled to my adopted and honorary city, Chicago, to attend the Chicago Flower & Garden Show at Navy Pier. The show continues through this Sunday, March 13.

It was raining when I left Ann Arbor and snowing when I arrived in Chicago. No matter. I met up with many gardening friends and enjoyed their company. I usually pay fairly close attention to every aspect of all displays, but I admit I was a little distracted (in a good way) by all the fun people around me.

The official theme of this year's show was "the sport of gardening," but judging from my photos, it seems the theme was leafless trees, flowers used to represent water, and cool & unusual animals.

Enjoy the slide show!

  1. I didn't pay much attention to the flowers this year, either. Is there something wrong with us?

Maybe when I go back this weekend I'll see if I care to look at the flowers. I think part of the problem for me is that the lighting is so off that I don't think the flowers ever really look that good.

  5. I missed a lot of the details this year, too, but it was so much fun meeting up with you again! I was a little disappointed in this year's show, but the socializing made up for it. You have some great photos, including a few things I think I overlooked. Sorry I missed you with the cockroach and tarantula, but Diane's millipede freaked me out so much I had to get out of there:)

  6. Yay - slide show success! Nice bunch of photos Monica. I loved seeing your perspective of the show.

I paid more attention to the show the second day. Last year I went one day completely on my own, and saw so much more of the show than I had on days when I hung out with friends. Still, my favorite part of the show has definitely become the chance to meet up with new and old gardening and blogging friends.

I'm so glad you came! It was great hanging out!

  13. I have enjoyed the slide shows I have seen on this show! You guys have such a great show and so many bloggers to see! What fun. Oh My Gosh, I love the Sailboats! I would so love to have one in my gardens with my love for boating. I may save this idea for the day we move to the lake. Even though we Southerners cannot be at the show, you Northern bloggers sharing your pictures give us such ideas to incorporate into our Southern gardens. Thanks to you for sharing…
